ATE Journal of Māori Art: Volume Two
ATE Journal of Māori Art was launched in June 2019 by co-editors Matariki Williams (Ngāi Tūhoe, Ngāti Whakaue, Ngāti Hauiti, Taranaki) and Bridget Reweti (Ngāti Ranginui, Ngāi Te Rangi). ATE is an annual, peer-reviewed journal with an explicit focus on Māori art, artists and art movements.
Content for Volume Two considers the relationship between tāngata whenua and the wider Moananui-a-Kiwa and was developed during a wānanga held with participating writers, Dr Emalani Case, Hanahiva Rose; guest speakers Bridget Williams, Cassandra Barnett, Sean Mallon, and Aroha Rangi.
Articles in Volume Two reflect the breadth and beauty of ngā toi Māori including the Aotearoa Moana Nui A Kiwa Weavers, Maureen Lander, Rangi Hetet, Reweti Arapere, Pacific Sisters, Ngāti Porou carvers, Israel Randell, Ruth Buchanan Ayesha Green and Bob Jahnke. Also included is a republished text from a rangatira of te ao Māori, Ngahuia Te Awekotuku.
