Art Trek 2008
19 March 2008. Free entry.
Art Trek is a unique arts event now in its 8th year. On Wednesday 19th March, 13 art galleries within the inner city will open from 5-8pm, providing the public of Christchurch with the opportunity to view more than 24 exhibitions in a single evening.
In 2006 Art Trek recorded more than 3,000 visits to galleries throughout the evening. This year the Christchurch public and tourists are again encouraged to take in a wide range of exhibitions and art practices. Galleries look forward to introducing new visitors to their premises.
The Christchurch Art Gallery will again act as the 'hub' or information centre with the Friends of the Gallery catering and providing the opportunity to go in a draw for prizes, and live music.
Buses will leave every 30 minutes from 5 to 8pm from outside the Christchurch Art Gallery on the corner of Montreal and Gloucester Street travelling to the cnr Worcester Street and Manchester Street and to Aliceinvideoland on High Street and Tuam Street.
To boldly go.!
Art Trek will take you into the cultural heart of the city to enjoy a diverse range of artistic activities in public galleries, dealer galleries and not-for-profit art spaces.
From High Street to the Christchurch Art Gallery, a broad spectrum of the visual arts is on exhibition, from historical to conceptual, and object art to installation. Art Trek offers a unique social arts experience for those who are not regular gallery visitors.
'Art Trek is a great opportunity for the Christchurch City Council to be involved in the arts scene, offering a free event and encouraging cooperation between galleries for the economic and social benefit of the city.'
(Marlene LeCren, Arts Advisor, Christchurch City Council).
Art Trek is funded by the Christchurch City Council, COCA and the Christchurch Art Gallery Te Puna O Waiwhetu, RDU and CAHT.
