Adam Willetts
Piped Music
29 Mar — 20 Apr 2000
This month sees the beginning of Piped Music, an ongoing sound series situated in the gallery bathrooms (you can't say we don't use EVERY available space!). Curated by the Oblique Arts Trust, this project will showcase new work by sound artists from around the world.
First up is Christchurch artist Adam Willetts, whose sound installations create charged sonic and visual environments that make the viewer acutely aware of the very physical nature of forces such as static electricity, radio waves, and the audiences own electromagnetic charge. For Piped Music, Willetts has created a piece in which pared back, minimal interventions hint at surveillance operations conducted under stealth, with hesitant sounds of occupants scratching, walking, and scrawling graffiti or tagging.
