FOR THIS SESSION
We will be chat about the current exhibition Backdirt by Priscilla Rose Howe and Daniel John Corbett Sanders and write a short response to it. This exercise will be a way into unpacking approaches to writing exhibition responses/reviews and a discussion about style and character within art writing.

We will also have time to workshop any writing or projects you're seeking feedback on.

GENERAL
The Physics Room’s writing and discussion group meets monthly and is open to anyone who likes to think about and discuss contemporary art.

This is a group which aims to flex to the needs of its community. Spanning reading, writing, and discussion, The Physics Room hopes that this can be a place for creative practitioners and arts workers to receive feedback on writing or creative projects and to discuss critical texts in an encouraging environment. These loosely structured sessions offer an opportunity to learn from one another and to engage with the contents of The Physics Room’s library and archive.

Now and then we will invite a guest to facilitate a writing workshop or discussion group.

Snacks provided, and sometimes we have a pot-luck.

Please bring: Yourself, something to nibble if you want to, an idea of what you’d like to get out of the group, and anything you’ve been working on or thinking about.

If you're interested in joining us please email Orissa, our Writing and Publications Coordinator, orissa@physicsroom.org.nz

Access: The Physics Room’s Montreal Street gallery space is wheelchair accessible via The Arts Centre’s Market Square carpark, accessed by car from Worcester Boulevard, driving east from Rolleston Avenue or north via Montreal Street before Worcester Boulevard. An all-gender, wheelchair accessible bathroom is down the hallway at the back of the gallery, just ask a staff-member or volunteer to show you. Please get in touch with me or our access coordinator Honey honey@physicsroom.org.nz for any questions or requirements around access.
