Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori

14 - 18 September

For Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori artist Turumeke Harrington has been invited to undertake a digital residency which will be hosted on our Instagram @physicsroom.

From Mane 14 til Paraire 18 Hepetema, Harrington will undertake a haerenga with some of her favourite people and places in Te Waipounamu as part of an ongoing artistic inquiry.

The theme for Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori 2026 is Te Reo Towns, and is about recognising the communities already leading the way, while others take the next step in their reo journey. The Physics Room wants to tautoko the visibility of te reo Māori in contemporary art and join the ongoing energy of the Māori Language Movement.

Turumeke Harrington (Kāi Tahu, Rangitāne) works across sculpture, painting, jewellery, design, and installation to explore how colour, material, and form embody mātauranga Māori. Her playful works sit between art and design, combining humour and whakapapa to reimagine cultural narratives within contemporary space. Harrington holds a Master of Fine Arts (Distinction) from Massey University, alongside degrees in Fine Arts and Industrial Design. Harrington has exhibited widely across Aotearoa, including at major institutions such as Wairau Māori Art Gallery, Dunedin Public Art Gallery, Christchurch Art Gallery Te Puna o Waiwhetū, alongside numerous artist-run and independent spaces.
