The Physics Room Visitor Code of Conduct
The Physics Room is a contemporary art project space dedicated to developing and promoting contemporary art and critical discourse in Aotearoa New Zealand. We welcome all visitors and aim to provide a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for everyone — artists, audiences, staff, volunteers, and the public.
By entering The Physics Room, you agree to follow this Code of Conduct.
Expected Behaviour
- Treat all people with respect, courtesy, and kindness (including other visitors, artists, staff, and volunteers).
- Respect the artworks and exhibitions. Do not touch, lean on, or interfere with any artwork unless explicitly invited to do so by gallery staff.
- Keep noise to a reasonable level so that others can enjoy the space.
- Follow all health and safety instructions, including any capacity limits or emergency procedures.
- Supervise children at all times.
- Be mindful of others’ personal space.
Prohibited Behaviour
- Harassment, discrimination, abusive or offensive language, or intimidating behaviour (on any grounds, including race, gender, sexuality, disability, or artistic views).
- Damaging, defacing, or attempting to remove artworks or gallery property.
- Photography or filming where signs indicate it is not permitted (we generally allow non-flash photography for personal use).
- Smoking, vaping, or consuming alcohol/food except in designated areas or at approved events.
- Bringing animals inside (except assistance animals).
- Soliciting, leafleting, or commercial activity without prior permission.
- Any behaviour that endangers the safety of others or the artworks.
Photography and Copyright
We encourage sharing your visit on social media, but where possible, we appreciate you crediting the artist and exhibition.
Enforcement
Staff or The Art Centre Security may ask anyone breaching this Code to modify their behaviour or leave the premises. Serious or repeated breaches may result in a ban and/or reporting to authorities.
