Also questioning truth and representation in her practice, video and
sound artist Tabatha Forbes is best known for her work with the sound
collective Relay, and was also the organizer of last years
SoundCulture99 festival. For the Physics Room she has created
an installation where video is seamlessly inserted into furniture
for the viewing audience, drawing them physically into the work itself.
In Pretty Choice Eh? Forbes explores the sheer overload
of information we receive from mainstream media, and in particular
the difficulties of discerning between truth and fabrication in
the information presented to us. Pretty Choice Eh? profiles
the stories of a variety of New Zealand men, using the techniques
of contemporary documentary to create video loops which are either
entirely real, or an elaborate construction, the viewer must decide
for themselves...
