Concrete
Video represents works produced by Melbourne artist Julian Holcroft
during the past three years. Deriving the title of the installation
from the Concrete Poetry movement, Holcroft presents here a selective
history of the video medium, borrowing stylistic tropes from home movies,
music videos and popular cinema. Breaking down narrative time, Holcroft
seeks in his video work to create unresolved narratives, inducing in
the viewer a "mental confusion" of near and far, present and
future, real and unreal.
