Eugene Hansen and Marcus Williams
November 20 - December 10 1999
Straddling the bi-cultural spectrum, the collaborations of Eugene
Hansen and Marcus Williams are an inquiry into cross-cultural
exchange. Transforming everyday materials - light, video, junk
shop discards - into metaphorical signifiers, their work illuminates
social structures than normally remain hidden. By avoiding the
mythology of racial harmony suggested by their collaboration,
Hansen and Williams' installations establish a dialogue between
the two artists that illustrates their differences as well as
their commonalties.
