The End
Lisa Crowley
July 14 - July 25
Lisa
Crowley's photographs capture moments that are both vast and empty,
frozen images that reveal the instability of the cultural landscape.
Sensual and sublime, her deadpan representations of horses gazing out
at the viewer in this new body of work conjure up romantic images of
travel, beauty, and freedom.
Parallelling the vicarious escapism offered by cinema, these idealised
images provide a place where our own fantasises can come to rest. Almost
pornographic in their intensity, soft fades of horse flesh, and dewy
eyes, act as a screen for the projection of our own desires. Like the
scrolling film credits suggested by the exhibition title - 'The End'
- the effect of these photographs is to leave the viewer suspended in
a state of reverie.
