The Physics Room contemporary art project space would like to invite you to an afternoon of wine, art, conversation with colleagues and a short presentation about each of three galleries by its respective Director or Education officer. The contributing galleries are...
- The Physics Room
- Jonathan Smart
- COCA
- SOFA
The event will take place on
Tuesday 20 th July 5.00 - 6.30pm
As Gallery Directors and employees we think it would be fantastic to have more regular correspondence and contact with you and your students. Our desired outcome would be to achieve a greater level of communication between the Secondary School Art Teachers and these Christchurch galleries.
The event will begin at 5pm at the Physics Room where a show curated by British artist and teacher Lee Campbell will be on exhibition. Director Rosemary Forde will give a brief outline of the Physics Room’s objectives and discuss ways in which Secondary School teachers and students can utilise these galleries and our unique and individual art and gallery practices. We would also like feedback about what we can offer you in terms of resources and how we can become more accessible to you. From the Physics Room we will move across the road to the Jonathan Smart Gallery, where there will be an exhibition by Kirsty Gorman, and then we will travel by shuttle (or private vehicle if you wish) to COCA. There will be an opening of works by Helen Back, Philip Trusttum and Kazu Negishi, Virginia Watson and Kerry Proctor, and Andre Hemer downstairs at COCA. We will proceed to the Art Zone education area upstairs where there will be an exhibition of National high scoring bursary art folios. Education officer Alan Cathro will discuss the programme and the aims and objectives of the Art Zone. From COCA you are welcome to move on to the SOFA gallery where there will be more wine and art at the opening of the Tony de Lautour exhibition. There will be shuttles to return you to High Street or you can carry on to Annies Wine Bar for further refreshments and conversation. Hope to see you there.
We would very much like you to attend. It will be an enjoyable and interesting afternoon.
Please RSVP to Helen Cooper by 2nd July.
