Whether found or wrenched from some source the fragment bears exterior signs of fatigue, a dent here, some stains, a careless scratch there. A further slow and careful picking through its surface yields latent layers of sediment. Traces of past use and activity unveiled to mingle with present experience. Sensible reading of its history is rendered illegitimate in favor of affective, fractured impressions.
